Taejae University, a brand-new institution in South Korea, offers an exciting Global Engagement Program that's perfect for students who want to see the world. (Not only that, but Taejae also offers a pretty amazing scholarship program; more on that below.)
Taejae is focused on several program areas in its academic offerings — like innovation, social sciences, natural sciences, data science and AI, and business — but one of the most unique things about Taejae is its emphasis on travelling the world as part of the Global Engagement Program.
Global Engagement combines world travel with innovative in-classroom instruction. You'll spend time in each country, pursuing your education with a specific learning theme unique to each location. Over the course of your four-year undergraduate degree, you'll study in five countries!
(Be aware, the sub-themes below are examples; the exact curriculum you pursue might vary.)
Year 1: Seoul, Korea
Taejae is based in Seoul, and it's here you'll tackle the first learning theme, starting in your second semester of first year: harmony & balance. This covers topics in religion and public policy, including:
- Confucianism, Buddhism, Christianity
- Post-colonial conflict and NK/SK relations
- Political turmoil and democratization
Year 2: Tokyo, Japan
In the second semester of second year, you'll travel to Japan to pursue the next learning theme: tradition & progression. You'll learn about economics, broadly and in terms specific to Japan, like:
- The Meiji Restoration, from feudalism to modern nation-state
- Collectivism, imperialism, and national identity
- Economic progress and technological innovation
Year 3: New York, USA, and Hong Kong, China
Third year is all about travel! You'll spend your first semester in the Big Apple, New York City, with a learning theme centered around individualism & innovation:
- Individual rights, democracy, constitutional equality
- The Civil Rights Movement and history of civic protest
- Philosophies and challenges of the melting pot
In second semester, you'll leave New York for Hong Kong, where you'll study different ideas, focused on collectivism & communism. Learn about topics like:
- Social systems of classic dynasties from Xia to Song
- Global significance of the Silk Road (trade and civilization)
- Modern unified governance and the Cultural Revolution
Year 4: Moscow, Russia
Finally, in your fourth year, you'll travel to Moscow, the capital of Russia, to pursue your final learning theme: east & west. You'll cover themes including:
- The Soviet Era (Russian Revolution, Birth of the Soviet Union)
- Collectivism and the planned economy vs. market economy
- Russian foreign policy and WWII + Cold War geopolitics
Bear in mind that the sub-themes listed above are samples; the exact course material you cover may vary slightly. Still, you can expect to spend plenty of time in Korea, Japan, the USA, China, and Russia during the course of your four-year degree.
